CONDITIONS TREATED

The goal is to support, balance and optimize body functions to promote and create an optimal environment for healing to take place. Belief in the body’s innate capacity to reverse disease. Treatment focuses on identifying causative factors of disease. Comprehensive case and family history is obtained and a in-depth evaluation of lifestyle and environmental factors that may may contribute to poor health or increase risk for disease. Dr. Reynolds emphasize disease prevention, and utilize a patient-centered and collaborative approach to encourage individual responsibility to reestablishing the conditions of optimal health. Personalized, evidence-based, safe and effective treatment plans are developed from in-depth biochemical testing and an analysis of lifestyle and environmental factors of health to identify underlying causes of disease and to improve overall patient outcomes. Functional Medicine focuses on whole patient care, using diet, lifestyle and gentle treatments to support health and wellness.

The most common conditions
that I can assist with include:

ACUTE ILLNESS

Acute illness is an illness that comes about very quickly but only lasts for a short time. Although acute illnesses do not last for very long, they can still be extremely dangerous in some cases—even deadly. Most of the time, however, acute illnesses can be treated with safe and effective natural treatments. Signs of acute illness come on very quickly. Some patients may feel completely healthy in the morning, and feel terrible in the afternoon. Common causes of an acute illness include allergies, drug reactions, infections with microorganisms, and autoimmune disorders. Proper management of these types of illnesses involves establishing what is exactly making someone sick so treatment plans can be created. There are two aspects to infection care-the general treatment and the specific treatment.

General treatment works to harness the general anti-infection processes in the body. Specific modification direct those forecast the area affected and the specific type of infection. Dr. Reynolds has experience treating a range of acute conditions. Her approach involves utilizing a variety of therapeutic modalities, from a comprehensive and holistic approach. Treatment may include a combination of phytotherapies, micronutrient therapy, nutraceuticals, hydrotherapy, and personalized nutrition.

ACUTE CONDITIONS

WOMEN'S

Each stage of a woman’s life brings a specific spectrum of health concerns.
Functional medicine, which aims to be restorative, provides the safest and most effective means to addressing the root causes of issues that arise for women. A woman’s body is a very complicated system of balancing variables. Though this is also true for men and children, women can experience more symptomatic cyclical events. There are many external influences that have a profound impact on a women’s health. For example, in many cases, if a woman is willing to commit to an aggressive nutrition program, many female health symptoms can completely disappear. It is very common to see estrogen dominance in women be resolved by altering the diet to reduce circulating estrogen as well as reducing the intake of estrogen-promoting foods can really make a significant impact on symptoms.
Stress on the other hand can impact female hormones and is meant to be a short term and geared toward running from danger. For instance, sitting in traffic for two hours or seeing a creepy crawler we would require a good shot of our stress hormone cortisol to get our heart to pump more blood to our muscles so that we could run or flee from danger. Without that healthy stress response we would break and not survive. However, we can choose to escape, overcome or be defeated by the stressful event in a short amount of time. This is what our stress system was designed for. Modulating the stress response, balancing nutrition and addressing lifestyle and environmental contributors to hormone imbalances is what Dr. Reynolds initiate as her first-line approach. Dr. Reynolds  comprehensive, patient centered approach to women’s health uses the best of lifestyle medicine to establish hormonal balance and harmony throughout your body.

DIGESTIVE HEALTH

The gastrointestinal (GI) system plays an important role in overall health. Often, imbalances in the digestive system lead to symptoms elsewhere in the body, including the nervous system, immune system, and skin. Known as the “Gut-Brain axis” the wall of the gastrointestinal lining comprises hundreds of millions of neurons (the enteric nervous system) which manage the digestive process from swallowing to nutrient absorption to elimination. The health of the GI is complex in nature and is essential for whole body system functioning. There are a combination of whole-body variables, including proper enzymatic function, nutrient absorption, microbiome diversity and composition, tissue health, and elimination of waste. The ultimate goal is to have a digestive system that is functioning optimally. Dr. Reynolds will assess whether the GI system is performing at a level of optimal performance, or if any dysfunction is present. She employ a comprehensive set of tools in her evaluation, including- lab testing, and possible a comprehensive stool analysis that will help you get to the root cause of your digestive issue. Often there is a food intolerance affecting digestion. Simply removing the triggers that promote gastrointestinal distress, most conditions can resolve. Sometimes, the issue is the gallbladder or even female reproductive organs. Dr. Reynolds is also trained to screen for and identify more serious causes of digestive troubles.

CONDITIONS

CHRONIC CONDITIONS

Dr. Reynolds has experience treating a range of chronic issues, including
cardiometabolic conditions, chronic fatigue, and autoimmune conditions such Hashimoto’s, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Functional digestive disorders, Food Intolerances, Hormone Balance, and Stress are all areas Dr. Reynolds will investigate. Recent research has shown that certain social, environmental and lifestyle factors can promote systemic chronic inflammation that can, in turn, lead to several chronic diseases that collectively represent the leading causes of disability and mortality worldwide, such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, autoimmune and neurodegenerative disorders. By reducing the total body burden through detoxification, avoidance of food intolerances, and reduction of toxicants, allergies can often be improved and inflammation lowered. Fatigue on the other hand, can have many causes including hormonal, mental-emotional and infectious. Dr. Reynolds will make use of naturopathic diagnostic techniques and labs to get to the root of your problem. She develops comprehensive plans to take into account each individual’s lifestyle, nutrition, work and leisure activities, current and past stressors, and relevant previous injuries—in other words, the root causes of each person’s pain and inflammation as well as other manifestations. The plans use various combinations of dietary recommendations and nutritional supplements along with phytotherapies to help reduce inflammation, pain and fatigue it causes.

THYROID HEALTH

The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped endocrine gland located at the base of the neck. The thyroid’s job is to make thyroid hormones which are secreted into the blood and then carried to all body tissues. Thyroid hormone helps the body make energy, metabolize, regulate and maintain temperature, and keeps the brain, heart,
muscles, and other organs working properly. When the body isn’t making enough thyroid hormone, symptoms can include fatigue, weight gain, hair thinning, dry skin, and depression. The most common thyroid condition affecting about 20 million Americans is hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism is more common in women than men, hypothyroidism can have a number of genetic, nutritional, and immune-related underlying causes and contributing factors. Dr. Reynolds rarely use medication as her initial or stand-alone treatment to thyroid dysfunction. Instead she individualize her treatment using diet, nutritional supplementation and botanical medicine as indicated. If autoimmune disease is the main cause of thyroid dysfunction, Dr. Reynolds  Work to help modulate inflammation, slow the progression of illness and eliminate autoimmune triggers to put the condition into long-term remission.
